DROWNING ON DRY LAND

Synopsis:

Barbara Hershey plays a woman in search of herself in this introspective melodrama/romance. One night in New York City she hails a cab and asks the cabbie to take her from NYC to the desert of Arizona. That's right a cab ride from New York to Arizona! Anyway, along the way, the lines separating passenger from driver are blurred and the two become lovers. Each one is searching for something but unwilling to let the other fill their need. Drowning on Dry Land is a curious if not quirky look at romance and the need to be loved and to give love in return.

Audio/Video:

The audio for the film is presented in a lack luster DD2.0 platform. Essentially a dialogue driven feature, DODL has very little aural extensions in the way of surround effect. With this presentation, the audio is kept in the fronts and center only. Nothing spectacular here.

The video is presented in a washed out full frame format whose presentation is akin more to a cable TV presentation than a Digital reproduction. The colors are fairly dull and the flesh tones are pretty pallid. In all, the video went from poor to fair at it's best. Other than these errors, there were no other transfer issues noticed.

Extras:

The only extra on the disc is the film's trailer and Spanish sub-titles. It's worth noting that while there are Spanish subs, there are no English subs…go figure.

Overall:

Barbara Hershey ahs got to be one of the absolute sexiest women on the planet and one of my favorite actors. I have really enjoyed her previous works and was looking forward to liking this one as well. Sadly, it's little more than a soft-core porn flick at best. The storyline about an abused woman seeking a fresh start is quite engaging, it's just the surrounding elements used to tell the story that make it sluggish and pretty painful to watch at times. It's a long hour and a half that's all I can say! Rent it
