Synopsis:

At the close of World War II, the eyes of the world were opened to the atrocities committed against the Jewish populace of Europe at the hands of the Nazi party under the direction of Adolph Hitler. For the second time, the leaders of the German Republic were brought to court in an attempt to assign blame for actions of horror outside of the normal carnage found during war. The first time was at the close of the First World's War. Poorly constructed and improperly motivated, that trial unraveled before it could really begin and nothing ever came of her criminals. Here, the collective global conscious refused to allow the same mistakes to happen again. 21 ranking members of the Nazi high command were captured and placed on trial for crimes of aggression and crimes against humanity. Among the 21 was none other than Hitler's 2nd in command Reich Marshall Herman Goring. Their defense is based on loyalty to Hitler and serving their country in the face of the enemy. This trial, held in the seat of German Justice in the city of Nuremberg, proved to be an incredible legal proceeding without precedent. The then four powers of the world, The United States, Great Britain, France and the Soviet Union, sat in judgment of the Nazi party and based upon the evidence as presented, which included some of the most incredulous testimony ever heard, rendered their unanimous decision for all 21 of the defendants. Nuremberg is an excellently cast film, that brings history to new life. Definitely one that should not be missed.

Audio/Video:

The audio is presented in a 2-channel stereo surround platform. For emphasis/punctuation the Sub is employed in certain scenes but definitely not throughout the whole of the film. The dialogue is clear and the platform as presented is adequate for the film's heavy dialogue. In all, no complaints with the audio portion.

The video is a remarkable anamorphically enhanced widescreen transfer. The film is clean with only one or two places where a black mark appeared on the print. TNT Original movies tend to have high production values and an impressively clean transfer for their digital rendering so, the clarity is no surprise. The disc did however freeze on chapter 28 during Goring's rebuttal of Baldwin's statements. The only way to restart the film was to stop and start. It would neither advance nor reverse. Other than that, the video was fine.

Overall:

While no one can deny the horrors of the concentration camps, it amazes me how single-minded and prejudicial, American Jurisprudence can be. While the world watched as we prosecuted criminals for "Crimes against Humanity" in Nuremberg, Blacks, Native Americans, Latinos, Asians and other civil/human rights advocates were still being beaten, raped and murdered, not too mention, excluded and oppressed all with the blessings of a benevolent nation intent on righting wrongs a world away while, perpetrating her own crimes against humanity on her own soil. The last thoughts expressed at the close of Nuremberg where those espousing that this kind of horror "would never happen again". Sadly, history will prove them all too wrong. Where was the Tribunal in Rwanda, Serbia and Croatia? But enough with my soapbox. Nuremberg is a powerfully moving example of incredible casting. You literally, could not find a better cast to do this film. Incredible story, incredibly well told. In all, I'd be hard pressed to not highly recommend this film. It clocks in at three hours in length and is worth every moment of your time. Highly recommended
