The routines that are performed in this concerts are just about all from his early albums, but they are still funny all these years later and some of them, like the 'marketing of Abe Lincoln' are even more appropriate today than when they were first recorded.

Newhart's style is sedate and laid back, and his routines are often two-way conversations where the audience only hears one side.  The Driving Instructor, one of his most famous bits, involves a man trying to teach a rather high-strung woman how to drive.  At one point he asks:

How fast were you going when [your previous instructor] Mr. Adams jumped out of the car?  (pause)  75 miles per hour.  And where were you at the time?  Your driveway...

Other routines included in this concert involve the night watchman for the Empire State Building calling his supervisor the first night on the job asking what he should do when King Kong starts climbing up the outside.  ("You don't care what I do, just get him off.") There is the school for bus drivers teaching them how to aggravate their passengers, and the nude line-up at the police station so women and ID a flasher.

The Captain of the USS Codfish's address to his men as the submarine is about to dock for the first time in two years is here (...now about the mutiny...) as well as  Abner Doubleday trying to sell the idea of baseball to a game company.  My favorites were Sir Walter Raleigh explaining the uses of tobacco to brokers back in England (you bought 80 tons of leaves?) and  Flying on the Mrs. Grace L. Ferguson Airline and Storm Door Company, a new cut-rate airline that gets rid of the frills, like maintenance, and passes the savings on to you.
 
This is a very funny concert, and even though I'd heard just about all of these routines before I still was laughing out loud through most of it.  If you've never heard Newhart's stand up routines before, you're in for a great treat.

Audio:

The stereo mix is quite appropriate for this type of concert.  It's not the last word in high fidelity, but it doesn't need to be.  It's very easy to hear the monolog and audio defects are almost totally absent (I heard a single pop, but that was it.)  There are subtitles in English and Spanish.

Video:

The full frame image was clean and clear with no major problems.  Quite acceptable for a stand up comedy concert.

Extras:

This disc also includes a 20 minute interview with Bob Newhart where he talks about how he got started doing comedy and the genesis of some of his routines.  This was very interesting and a nice addition.  There is also a photo gallery that has family pictures of Bob as a child and young adult.

Final Thoughts:

Bob Newhart is one funny guy.  Long before his TV shows he was at the top of the charts with his comedy records.  This concert illustrates just how funny his stand-up routines are.  Even if you've heard them time and time again, seeing him act these out on stage is hilarious.  Recommended.
