Synopsis:

They call themselves the Borg-a half-organic, half-machine collective with a sole purpose: to conquer & assimilate all races not already Borg. Led by their Queen (Alice Krige), the Borg are headed to Earth with a devious plan to alter our history. Picard's last encounter with the Borg almost killed him. Now he wants vengeance. But how far will he go to get it? Star Trek: First Contact is the story of humanity's struggle to overcome the Borg & preserve our way of life. Having suffered enormous losses at the hands of the Borg…i.e. Wolf 359, The Enterprise E & her crew prepare to face their most dangerous adversary to date.

In a word WOW! The anamorphic widescreen presentation of First Contact is incredible! I have to admit, I saw no errors in the transfer. No flecking, pixellation or marking. Really a pristine image! The colors were true, Fleshtones were accurate (for the humans that is) and the blacks were nice & deep. I am really impressed with the transfer for this film. Just awesome!

Audio:

The 5.1 digital audio will blow you away! The surrounds are put to such intense use it's really pretty neat. An example of, which would be when the Enterprise crew descends to the decks, occupied by the Borg. The surround presence really does make your home theater resemble a Borg hive! The sub gets nicely used given the wealth of battles & weapons fire. Additionally, The Phoenix's departure is incredibly well mixed & thunderous in its presentation. The score is pretty awesome as well & at the most wonderful times your surrounds provide just the right mix of horns & timpani!

Extras:

The current crop of Star Trek discs are for the most part movie-only discs. Included on all the discs released to date is the trailer for the film. First Contact is no different. Only this time two trailers are included as opposed to one! Ooh Treats.

Overall:

Star Trek: First Contact is a knock down drag out brawl with the Borg that is way way cool! It's got action, conflict, great dialogue & really impressive special effects. Not too mention, this is the first time we get to see the newly desingned Enterprise E! Prepare to enter a Pre-warp,Pre-Federation Earth where The Borg, Zefram Cochrane, The Enterprise E , Lilly & the Phoenix-will rocket you to the Stars! As Intergalactic adventures go, First Contact is first class all the way!
