You bought your tickets to Cancun and supplied yourself with sunscreen, drinking money, condoms and everything else needed for a fun vacation. But as you head to the taxi, you remember the one thing you forgot to cram into your over-stuffed suitcase: your three-year-old.

The DVD Travel with Kids - Mexico: The Yucatan Mayan Riviera was designed to help you avoid such travel missteps. We'd all like to write off our vacations off as a business expense, but "the Roberts family" (directors Jeremy and Carrie Simmons and their kids) found a way to do it. The family documents their trip to the Yucatan and identifies the potential pitfalls of traveling with restless, messy children.

The Movie:
Travel with Kids: London is part of a larger series of discs chronicling the adventures of the young parents Jeremy and Carrie as they wander the globe with their two young boys, Seamus and Nathan. A good gig, if you can get it, and you don't mind shepherding precocious young men around strange cities. This program does a fairly good job of providing tips for travelling with young ones, what to avoid, hidden treats, how much things cost and what to expect, while remaining whimsical and entertaining.

The stated purpose of Travel with Kids: London is to prove that people can take trips with children, even to large cities such as London, and enjoy themselves. Travel With Kids: New York:
Conceptually, the Destination Travel Guide Series Travel With Kids, is solid. Too bad the execution is fairly off-putting. In Travel With Kids: New York, the Roberts Family (husband, wife, two boys aged 7 and 5) takes on the Big Apple, hitting all the hot spots while also soaking in some local flavor. For all its good intentions, this DVD and included extras are needlessly complex, awkward and cloying. Even with just one child I can certainly see the use of this type of information, but I'd rather skip the professional grade home movies of the Roberts' typical boys, (goofy, hyper, and whiny) cheesy humor, dorky graphics and overly intricate menus this DVD provides. OK, so maybe cheesy, goofy and dorky are enticements to get your kids to watch the DVD, getting hyped for their trip, but I'll continue to look for this information from books.
